Originally from Newcastle-on-Tyne he is currently a London based Photographer specializing in black and white Street Photography.
Throughout life he has always been a great people watcher and it is this that drew him to Street Photography initially. Brumpton uses a rather non-confrontational approach to his photography allowing to capture his subjects in their natural behavior. Some street photographers like to almost inflict a pose onto their subjects to create and image. Ian Brumpton's work fits the brief well and with an urban environment such as Manchester only a train ride away I intend to use his style in my portfolio. Brumpton's lighting is very hard and has great definition but with this project being in the summer the majority of light is soft and warm. I've strayed away from photographing in urban environments as I have never been one to photograph people but I've still taken some inspiration from Brumpton's work. |
One thing that I have taken from Brumpton's work is the leading shadows. I intend to use these shadows to draw the view into the image, to where the interest is.
I intend on using more than one style of available light in my project to create some diversity. I have gathered a wide range of pictures from various sources to give me inspiration. Due to the time of year there have been some amazing sunsets giving me ample opportunity to make use of the dying golden light of the day.
